Bryony Long
Partner & Co-Head of Data, Privacy & Cyber: Lewis Silkin
Bryony Long is Co-Head of our Data, Privacy & Cyber group. She works in three main areas: data, privacy & cyber; technology & AI; and consumer & commercial.
From a data, privacy & cyber perspective, She advises a number of high profile clients on a range of complex data protection issues particularly around data collection and commercial exploitation and corporate governance. She also has also been involved in a number of high profile data regulatory investigations for large multi-national clients as well as advised on various data breaches. She holds the IAPP CIPP/E data protection / privacy accreditation and has spoken at a number of events on data, privacy & cyber issues.
From a commercial, technology and consumer perspective, She has a wealth of experience advising clients on both demand and supply side on a range of commercial agreements including supply of goods / services, software licensing & distribution, cloud services, agency and distribution, franchising, warehousing and logistics, sponsorship and ticketing, client / agency, media buying and confidentiality. She also advised on e-commerce compliance and general consumer law issues and have been involved in a number of consumer regulatory investigations acting on behalf of well-known retailers.
Sherif Malak
Partner: Shoosmiths LLP
Sherif Malak lead Shoosmiths’ Privacy & Data team, advising on compliance, risk and innovation across all sectors and in relation to emerging technologies. His work spans adtech, AI, blockchain and digital transformation, with a focus on pragmatic, commercially astute advice. He led the development of our managed service for DSARs, SmartSAR, and our outsourced DPO services.
He joined Shoosmiths having helped give Harry Potter a digital home and have since supported clients with digital and data-driven projects. His work has been referenced by the UK ICO and shortlisted for Best Innovative Privacy Project at the PICCASO Privacy Awards. He has advised on privacy governance, cyber security and regulatory engagement across sectors including automotive, retail and market research.
His is recommended in Chambers UK and Legal 500, and was a member of the IAPP Research Advisory Board. He founded the.JPA.club, a networking community for rising stars working in privacy and data, and curate Shoosmiths’ Data Insights conference. He also sits on the Editorial Board of the Journal on AI Compliance & Risk. He holds degrees from York, Durham, Edinburgh, and the (now) University of Law and was awarded the T.B. Smith Prize for Distinguished Scholarship.
Hannah Perry
Partner: Mason, Curran & Hayes
Hannah is a Partner in our Data & Technology team.
Hannah advises on all aspects of privacy and technology, from product counsel to cybersecurity, AI, content moderation and law enforcement. With a special focus on the intersection of technology laws – including the GDPR, DSA, AI Act and Data Act – Hannah has a multitude of experience in working with clients across the tech and IoT space, from traditional blue-chip manufacturers to next-generation AI and crypto businesses.
Hannah is known for providing commercial and pragmatic solutions to complex privacy issues. Hannah acts as product counsel for the world’s leading technology companies and specialises in building complex, multi-faceted privacy programmes for fast-growth companies. From her experience as a commercial contracts lawyer, Hannah also has a reputation as a keen negotiator and is regularly instructed by top tech companies to handle their challenging contracts.
Prior to joining us, Hannah gained much of her experience with a Tier 1 technology practice and from her time in the European Court of Human Rights. Her variety of experience and knowledge means that she brings a unique depth of understanding and exposure to her advice.
Dr Barry Scannell
Partner: William Fry LLP
Dr Barry Scannell is a Partner in William Fry’s Technology department. He specialises in artificial intelligence (AI), copyright, IP, technology law and data protection. He is internationally recognised as a leading expert in the area of AI law. He advises clients on issues relating to text and data mining, AI copyright infringement, machine learning, and AI ownership. He has expertise in AI specific contracts, licences, and dataset agreements. Barry specialises in advising on the AI Act and other legislation such as the DSA and GDPR from an AI compliance perspective.
He was appointed by the Irish Government to Ireland’s AI Advisory Council; has recently completed the writing stage of his PhD on AI and copyright; and is a member of the Law Society of Ireland’s IP & Technology Committee.
Alice Wallbank
Senior Professional Support Lawyer: Shoosmiths LLP
Alice Wallbank provides specialist research, training, and insight on global privacy and data protection compliance. Her background includes acting as principal legal counsel for the cyber division of a major defence tech company, advising on early AI and data projects, data security, and supply chain control.
She regularly writes on emerging technologies and support Shoosmiths’ internal AI governance, including policy development, AI literacy, and development of the firm’s AI training. She serves on the AI Group Committee of the Society for Computers & Law and the editorial committee of PDP AI Compliance and Risk.
Her experience includes advising on anonymisation, privacy-enhancing technologies, law enforcement data processing, and cyber resiliency, making data compliance principles practical and accessible for both clients and colleagues.
Julia Wilson
Partner: Baker & McKenzie Services Limited
Julia Wilson is a partner in Baker McKenzie’s Employment & Compensation team in London and co-chair of the Firm’s Workforce Redesign client solution. Julia also leads the employment data privacy practice in London. Julia advises multinational organisations on a wide range of employment and data protection matters.
Julia focuses on supporting employers with multi-jurisdictional and high-value matters involving strategic, operational, financial or reputational risk. In particular, she assists with designing workforce models, advising on regulatory frameworks governing non-traditional workforce engagement and on the implementation of organisational change and restructuring. Julia advises multinational corporations around the use of responsible AI, including the legal frameworks, AI ethics and governance, bias, and generative AI. Julia also advises on workplace data protection and compliance, complex employment litigation, global projects and transactions.
